In October of this year, our project team, together with the members of the Military Historical and Reenactment Group Tommy & Yankee, is preparing for our fourth expedition abroad! This time we plan to visit the area of the German city of Leipzig, where men of the 2nd Infantry Division fought their last street battles in April 1945.
The main task of our expedition will be to document the individual battlefields of the 2nd Infantry Division and visit WWII monuments in this area. The program includes a visit to Bad Lausick, the headquarters of the 2nd Infantry Division at the end of April 1945, the town of Grimma, where the 38th Infantry Regiment was stationed, the battle sites of the 2nd Infantry Division in Leipzig, the well-known “Flak-Alley” area near Merseburg-Leuna, and also the famous Colditz Castle.
We look forward to showing you many interesting places in the history of the 2nd Infantry Division, conducting our favorite field-survey and adding photos to our archive.
